Brixton News Kiosk

After 36 years at Brixton tube station, on the 13th February 2026 Pritesh closed the doors to his new kiosk for the very last time due to Transport for London’s decision to triple the annual cost of rent. It is a loss for Brixton, for the community and the world of print media and of course for Pritesh and his family.

I decided to go down to the station one last time to document their final day, buy one last publication and say my goodbyes to this Brixton institution.

I always dreamed of one day buying a publication that had my work printed from here, brining my mind around to the idea of this familiar institution no longer being present is almost impossible. However, the loss to those that love Pritesh and his newsstand was palpable, a constant stream of customers and friends leaving notes, gifts and condolences. Every single one of them sad to say goodbye.

It begs us to question where our communities will go when the people are pushed out in favour of profit.
